Information for Technical Bulletins
Information

Technical Bulletins are specific strategies for implementing reforms. Each Technical Bulletin is limited to a narrow topic that targets a concern raised by the network membership. Network school leaders whose schools are featured in a Case Study are typically presenters. In writing for the network they offer additional insight into the topics that make them a Model School. Through technical bulletins, these schools offer another opportunity to learn best practices from people who implement them on a daily basis in their school. These bulletins also offer additional tips, concerns, and questions for continuing the conversation beyond the bulletin. Members can blog about them, connect via the social networking features, and rate the bulletins as part of the SPN feedback process. Topics have included: iPhone Apps for AP Economics; A Gap Analysis of a School’s Instruction; High Expectations in an Elementary Classroom.

Benefits:

  • 24/7 accessibility, sharing, networking, and learning
  • A school improvement, implementation focused, resource
  • Promotes a culture of learning that contributes to innovation
  • Aligned to rigor/relevance resources as they are implemented by schools

We welcome submissions of ideas, tips and tools from Member schools. Please email them to Ashley@spnet.us

Schools have long gathered achievement data to demonstrate areas of growth and needs. Schools using the Learning Criteria for 21st Century learning are able to list numerous sets of objective data in support of foundation learning and stretch learning but recognize that little perceptual data is available for application to school improvement efforts. Successful Practices Network and Aspirations Unlimited International have combined to address this need for surveys that can be used by school ...Read more

As a Boomer growing up, I remember saying, “When I grow up, I want to be a…” When I was a student, the options for careers may have been limited, but there was a career for everyone. All we really had to do was graduate high school and then we could go to work with the skills we learned in high school or go on to a training program or a college. We had only to make passing grades and get that high school diploma. The walk across the stage to receive our diploma was our entry into the ad...Read more

The guide and strategies included below are currently being implemented across the country to prepare schools and districts to be ready for the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) by 2014.

The International Center for Leadership in Education and the Successful Practices Network strive to help educators design lessons that meet the needs of each and every student. Both institutions are guided by the following core beliefs:

• We believe that all children can learn
• We recognize that not all children can meet general education standards
• We believe more children are capable of meeting general education standards
• Regrettably, schools still have low expectation...Read more

Google.docs™ was created to help geographically-separated people connect and collaborate online to meet common goals and objectives. This innovative and interactive program is not housed in an individual’s computer database. The true creative capacity of the Google.docs™ program is that it exists in a metaphorical cloud. In 2009 CNN’s tech reporter, J.D. Sutter, described the cloud as “…the idea that computing power is moving off home PCs and laptops and onto the Web.” Students...Read more

The year 2014 will arrive much quicker than expected and at that point, schools across the country will need to implement the Common Core State Standards. It is not a task to be taken lightly and one where the transition needs to begin sooner rather than later. In this bulletin, an overview is included of the Common Core State Standards Gap Analysis provided by the International Center for Leadership in Education. Network members in Desoto County, MS are currently working through this process...Read more

The charts provided on the following pages have been used in conjunction with the Common Core State Standards Gap Analysis currently being conducted by our partners at the International Center for Leadership in Education. The checklist allows for a principal to conduct a self assessment of their practices and policies related to rigor and relevance in preparation for the transition to the CCSS.

The major changes and planning associated with the CCSS are currently happening at the state and district level, but there are some actions that can be implemented into an individual school right away. Provided in this bulletin is a general overview of the CCSS transition plan including a sample timeline and sample activity to bring awareness of the CCSS to teachers and encourage common planning around meeting the CCSS.
